Know Understand Realise Practise

Talking about different lessons of leadership or success, I have met a lot of people ranging from kindergarten kids to sales heads, marketing managers, CEOs of many companies and heads of big organizations. People from all these strata of age, work and status know about the same old proverbs that have been ruling ages together. Nowadays students also have such 'Thoughts for the Day' at their fingertips as they need to present them in their morning assembly. When such a lesson is repeated many people don't pay much heed to it because they feel that they already know it. They even underestimate the value of a person who shares a common lesson because they feel that even s/he is sharing the same thing that they already know. Friends! Knowing and practising are entirely two different aspects amongst humans.

All of us know that an atom bomb explodes but not all of us understand how it does so. Not all of are aware about the chemical reactions that take place. Not all of us know how to make one such atom bomb. Likewise knowing a lesson is just like merely knowing the name of a person, but you don't know the complete person's personality. It takes conversation or sufficient research to understand little bit about the person. Likewise in-depth understanding of any lesson also requires quite a good amount of reading. More than understanding how true the lesson is, it's very important to realise how it can bring about changes in your life at present. There is no point in learning it if you are not using it. Nevertheless after understanding and realising how well your life can change if the lesson is implemented, you have to take that initiative to inculcate the lesson as a part of your daily life in every aspect. Only then can the lesson also yield the expected results. You can go and ask any successful person about their message to people. Their answer shall consist of just one lesson that they have strictly followed all through their lives, which has bestowed them with the fruits for all their investment of time, energy and efforts.

One of the most profound examples that I heard some time back was that no matter how old you grow, you shall always drink water to quench your thirst. You might have cool drinks, milk, tea, coffee, carbonated drinks or fruit juices also, but ultimately, all of them have water as their raw material during preparation. We drink the same old colourless, odourless and tasteless water to quench our thirst. So, the same old lessons can solve every problem of ours and help us achieve what we aim at. Let's learn those few powerful principles of life, understand their meaning with the highest depth (depth of understanding shall deepen with more of experience resulting from more of action taken), realise their importance in our lives and practise them on a regular basis to convert all our visions into reality.

Planned and packed

It's time to get back to the powerful phrases from the book 'Life Simplified!' by Sujit Lalwani, serial entrepreneur running a number of businesses and social projects. This time we get into a quote that speaks about the optimum and efficient utilisation of all the time that this Universe has blessed us with during an entire day.

The author says that when your days are completely planned and packed, you shall soon realise that the pain of past fades, vision of life gets clearer and all that seemed to poison your life ceases to exist. I have spoke about planning a number of times before and hence shall avoid repeating the same here but definitely I would like to touch upon the point of packed days here. Everyone has only 24 hours in a day and no one can work for more than that in a single day. I have seen people who ask for 10 minutes of rest for every 30 minutes of work. If your work schedule is something like this then definitely you are not making the best use of time. You have to pack your day with different work that you need to cater to with proper time planning. Not all the times just a day is sufficient to complete all that you have planned. Hence it shall be very important to plan and pack your work for days ahead and also stick to the strict plan made by you. Every work's completion should be followed by the beginning of the next work with absolutely no idle time in between.

When your days are filled with work and commitments, seldom do you get time or mental space to think about problems of your past and hence the pain of past fades away. As you keep working, you progress nearer to the vision day by day and it gets clearer. More the work less the thought of problems in your head. Just by disallowing the mind from being idle all the above advantages can be exploited. Do let me know what you think on is.mohanbn@gmail.com

Get out and get it

Get out of your comfort zone if you are looking for comfort in life. Lying in a cushioned sofa and whiling away all your time shall not bring the comfort of parking a luxurious car in the balcony of your huge mansion constructed and customised exclusively for your family which you dreamt of. All your dreams shall come true only if you are not watching them while you're asleep but working for them.

Everything is achievable in this world. I don't have to cite the stories of successful men who made a private jet a toy for their kids, people who loved golf and hence built golf courses and many more. All that you want exists on this earth and all you have to do is to go and get it if you want it. The prayers or chants or spells that you cast at home with your empty hands shall not bring any of your dreams back home. You have to get out of your comfort zone and get into the outside world, search for what you want, work to get it and bring it back yourself. I am fed up of seeing people who complain that they don't have what they want and always sit at home. Man was given legs only to get out of his home and find what he needed and not to fold and sit liesurely on the sofa.

It is so important for each one of us to realise that we need to work to get what we want time and again. Some of the most important treasures of this planet are hidden deep inside the earth and we need to excavate the ground to find them. Similarly what we desire for also exists deep inside the world outside our homes. We need to excavate through all the noise to reach them. Feel free to share your feedback on is.mohanbn@gmail.com

Love, Trust, Character, Brotherhood

It's time to hit back at one more awesome quote from the book 'Life Simplified' by Sujit Lalwani, the magician who has changed many lives for the better. In this particular quote mentioned in the picture he speaks of the greatest religion on this earth and that's called humanity. He mentions the key ingredients that form the four pillars of the religion called humanity.

Every bron child grows up into an individual because of the love that parents shower. Every soul finds another soul completely unrelated upto the adult age who lasts for lifelong along is because of love. The reason an illiterate child turns into a literate student is because of the love of a teacher. Only love is responsible to create and maintain relationships between people through different means of respect, kindness, generosity, compassion and others and hence love is one of the strongest pillars of humanity. Trust is what keeps the relationship strong and going forward in any case. Lesser the trust, lesser the bond and co-operation between people, more the trust more the bond and co-operation between people. Trust develops in any relationship based on the characters of the two individuals related. If not for the character, trust shall never develop. Hence trust and character form the other two pillars of this sacred religion.

Universal brotherhood is what that can bring about unity among all those people habitating the earth. Lack of brotherhood shall always create gaps and loops and give rise to enmity between people. Hence brotherfood forms the binding factor that can keep people united irrespective of their backgrounds. Thus these four qualities shall form the four pillars to uphold the religion of humanity. Keep aside the emotional side

Man was born with emotions and shall die with them. Still at times it's necessary for us to see this life and the life around us from a higher plane. It is just like how we talk about a third person. Every occasion brings along with it some associated emotion. Not just an occasion, people associate feelings and emotions with people and things too. This is what makes life complex and miserable.

As I had mentioned in one of my previous blogs named 'Mood matters', the emotions through which a person is going through definitely matter to the reactions s/he will show and decisions s/he will take. We have so many favourites and so many unfavourites and
correspondingly we start
associating different feelings with these two. Unfortunately because of some wrong assignment here and there, we tend to lose the major lessons of life. A very simple example is that of time. We say those times during which we don't enjoy as bad phases. May be those are the phases during which we learn the best lessons of life. We are no one to decide which time is good or bad. So the author Sujit Lalwani drives home the same point in his book 'Life Simplified!' that if we can keep the time devoid of our emotions then there are no such bad times that cause us pain. All that happen shall happen for good and make us feel good.

It's difficult to reach the spirtitual stage of life where in we can separate the emotions from things happening around. Bhagvadgita also states that it is the highest level of life to see both good and bad as same and feel hot and cold as the same. It should be an aspiration for each one of us to reach such highly stable levels of life. Please share your feedback on is.mohanbn@gmail.com

Let me give an example

You would have heard this phrase a million times till now. To explain any particular concept, everyone tends to use an example to assist the authenticity of their concept. We see that examples exist even in our text books to prove the theory mentioned previously. Each one's life is an example to someone else. My only question is, how many times do we actually give or get the right examples?

First of all, let's see what is the necessity of giving an example. Whenever something explained to us, we may not understand it to an extent to which it has been explained. Let me give an example for this. When someone says that s/he has headache, you/I might just understand the existence of pain but we will not be able to understand the extent of the pain. When the same person gives an example that he is feeling the pain which happens when someone is hammering your head continuously, immediately we understand that the amount of pain is too much to sustain. Examples emphasize the depth of the concepts and situations. They help in better understanding and learning. Examples work as similes. Our brain can remember things by correlation. Hence every concept associated with an example is easy to remember and reproduce.

However, giving example is also a skill is what I believe. Unrelated examples completely take away the integrity of our understanding itself. One can give more examples only if one has read a lot, travelled a lot, met a lot of people and experienced a lot. Only when you can explain a simple concept by giving multiple examples do you become a great teacher and can spread your knowledge to a large mass of audience. Awareness ~ route to fearlessness

27th of January, 2013 was just an awesome day. Early morning car driving followed by a fantastic activity of meals donation accompanied with brithday celebrations of one of my closest friends, Bharath.G.C alongwith a chance to listen to Sulibele Chakravarthy at JAGO BHARATH function. However this blog is dedicated to the most loyal and humble person whom I have met in my life, my dear friend Bharath.G.C who shared this awesome lesson with the entire team of IU, "Awareness~ route to fearlessness".

Generally, we are afraid of those things which we haven't faced yet in our lives. We are afraid of them because we lack awareness about them. We are unaware about how might that thing or situation be. A simple example is that of darkness or spirits. People are afraid of darkness because they don't know what might happen during darkness if they take any step, people are afraid of spirits because they don't know what to do if they ever come across them. All the fear is due to the earlier heard stories about how darkness or spirits have harmed someone. Basically without having experienced oneself or have given a chance to oneself to face the fear, unwareness itself creates a fear. If one knows very clearly that whenever there is darkness one just needs to light a lamp or move towards a source of light, all fears vanish. As we grow in life we expect things to be as we want them to be. What we want depends on what we have seen earlier in life. Anything new about which we are not aware instantly creates a fear in us stopping us from trying it out.

Hence, knowing and learning more will always help us take action to expand our horizons in those directions. The action taking step itself defines that one is fearless. Once you have learned about the consequences that your action might reap then you have a clear idea in mind as to how to take the first step. The route to take action is to be fearless and the best way to develop fearlessness is by getting more and more awareness. Thanks to Bharath.G.C sir for sharing this wonderful lesson. Back-up of EXPERIENCE

Experience is something that we build as time progress with our age. As all of us know, everything has a limit. So does experience. New challenges and problems keep coming as we move ahead in life. There are some problems that repeat and there are some that are new. The first time we face any particular problem we are unaware as to how to solve it and also we don’t have a prior experience of having faced it. This makes the situation even more challenging. That is where comes into the picture of a back-up called as EXPERIENCE.
I am calling this experience as back-up because this is a experience which we haven’t  got on our backs but it lies as a back-up in someone else’s kitty. It so happened that in last few days I was on bad health for sometime. I knew what medicine would suit my body at such situations of cough and cold and I used to apply them before to resolve the matter. This time the cough took a serious form and started severe trouble. None of my earlier methods worked, even the doctor’s consultation couldn’t make any impact. That is where the back-up of experience came as my saviour in the form of my dad’s experience. He suggested me few medications which I implemented immediately and saved myself a lot of trouble. This was possible because I came across a new problem for which I had no experience or learning to solve but could take the help of my father’s experience  to resolve the same. When you don’t have the experience just buy it from the one who has it is the lesson that I learnt from this experience of using else’s experience to build my own experience.
No doubt that it is impossible for a single person to go through all the hardships to learn all the solutions for all the problems in life. Different people go through different problems and build different experiences. One doesn’t have to spend all his time to undergo different experiences. Just buy the experiences of others when you haven’t had them and use them wherever and whenever necessary. In this regard, one of the strongest methods that I would like to suggest is to read autobiographies and biographies of great people which comprise of a variety of important experiences.
I have shared my little experience here, hope to read your experiences on is.mohanbn@gmail.com

God has planned it all

For those believers in God I need not go into deep description of this title of the blog but for those people who don't believe in God, I hope atleast you believe in energy defined by science. Energy that we can't see that has set the structure of evolution of the universe. There is this universal energy responsible for the planets to go around stars, the energy which is responsible for life to exist on this planet earth and so on. There is a systematic process set rolling involving so many non-systematic incidents. I am sure you have atleast heard of how the earth balances the life population. So behind all these happenings there is some master energy and some master plan against which we humans are too tiny to challenge and fight. This master supreme energy is what I bleieve as God. When you plan you might fail or succeed but you can just be sure that whatever happens will result in good for you if you believe that it was planned by God to make good happen for you.

In my childhood when my grandmother used to say that everything is already planned in the drama that God has written and that's why the past incidents have happened the way they have happened, I used to argue with her that there's no drama and if there is one it should tell us the future. I was so stupid that I didn't understand that it required wisdom to read the drama not just a question. When I turn back and see the past incidents of my life, I just realise how well the dots were placed and connected by God to help me reach the position I have reached now. Might be it will be too small of me to analyse everything of it by logic though I can do it. I just feel satisfied and blessed that God planned it so well for me. When I extend this thought to the world I can clearly see that inspite of so many efforts by man to systematize the running of life, God keeps surprising him with new things, fooling him with randomness and exciting the game even more day by day. If you are standing with the ego of the self that things will happen only as you want them to, you are just spoiling your time with disappointment. I am not trying to say here that one shouldn't put his efforts in doing things. That is the utmost necessity because God has planned it so well that if one person has no reason to do a certain thing some other person has million reasons to accomplish the same because God has planned a dynamic drama not a static one.

At the end of the above conversation what I would like to convey to you my friend is that we are in this world to play our roles. Circumstances and situations will keep changing. Some might favour us while some might deceive us completely. Just keep a hope and belief in the eternal energy which I refer to as God that everything has been planned to happen only for the good of you. Don't jump into conclusions anywhere about how things happen because God always loves to surprise you. Keep learning through the game of life, explore and most important of all enjoy it. Afterall at the end of the day we know the truth that birth, death and change are the only three constant things on this earth and the time in between birth and death is meant to be lived with utmost life in it.

I would love to read your perceptions of God and life. You can write to me on is.mohanbn@gmail.com
