Remember people and their names

A name is an identity of a person. Every person associates himself/herself with this identity. A baby which is newly born into this world doesn't have to worry about what it's called. It knows that all the people around it are only there to take care of it. All those people who smile at it and call out any sound seem to be talking to the baby. That's when the baby doesn't feel any need of a name or an identity. But as we grow up in life people know that we no more remain babies who don't know how to take care of ourselves. So the extra-care that a baby deserves gradually reduces. That is the time of identity crisis for a growing infant who doesn't find much attention from the elders. Hence an identity requirement arises and the child gets christened with a name. Thus a name becomes the identity of the person.

Name is an entity that symbolizes a person for lifetime. As a result, every person gets attached to it emotionally as well as spiritually. More than knowing that we are human beings, we refer to ourselves by our names as if there are a billion species out there in the world with different names other than just homo-sapiens. This close becomes our name as an integral part of a person's life. It's almost like a part of the human body from then onwards. When someone forgets our name it is as if he has forgotten that we are alive. Even if a person misspells or pronounces wrongly a name, the person gets severely disturbed. That's the essence of importance that one associates with one's own name. There have been so many examples when people have broken relations just because a person didn't care to remember the name of the other person. A small spelling mistake in the name is not tolerated by many people because one cannot visualise himself/herself with the wrong spelling. Hence one should be very much careful while writing down the names of people, especially while printing on banners and invitation cards. Every person has a dream to make a name for himself/herself before leaving the planet because no one shall remember the amount of money you make or the number of properties you build. All that the people shall remember once a person has left the planet is that, "There once lived a person by name ___________ who did so and so........"

By now if you have understood the importance of the name for a person, you will never even make a mistake by chance also to misspell or wrongly pronounce or forget a person's name who has been your acquaintance. People are happy to be recognised, exclusively by their names. Hence remembering people and their names becomes a very important factor in all our lives. We need to give that extra effort to remember people who have crossed our paths and especially their names too. Only then will we be able to build a strong network of people around us who shall respect us for the kind of respect we show them. Only by influencing positively the lives of thousands can we make our lives worth being lived and rejoiced.

Remembering noteworthy dates

Birthdays, festivals, wedding anniversaries, dates of joining and
leaving jobs, dates of starting new careers and many more such noteworthy and important dates form the different dots of our lives that we connect later. Unfortunately due to the growing number of such dates, it's seldom easy to remember all of them.

However if we make a small effort to remember such important dates it can make a whole lot of difference for those who are also concerned with those important dates. Just this evening, I had a small experience which made me realise the importance of remembering dates. I was working on developing my new skill, when I got a call from the institution for which I work as a teacher. The lady on the other side was asking for some information about my qualification and also asked about my date of joining the institution for which I responded with the exact date. She was astonished and smiled which I couldn't see but only sense. She was surprised that I remembered the exact date of joining the institution. It happens with many of us many a times when we are really surprised when far off friends remember our birthdays and wish us when we least expected.

People have special feelings associated with dates. A simple example to cite is that of lovers who remember the time as well as the date when the boy proposed the girl, the first time they went out for a date and so on. If remembering important and noteworthy dates can bring about a surprise and a smile on the face of a fellow human being, let's do it more often. Competition generates concentration

Once again one of the phenomenal concepts poured out during an interesting discussion today with my mentor. Lot of people have this question in mind as to how can they develop concentration. Some suggest to do deep breathing while some others suggest to keep oneself completely away from all disturbances and distractions and work. There are 'n' number of other ways too suggested by some others. Instead of seeing at different methods as to how to develop concentration, let's go directly to the roots of exactly when do we have the highest amount of concentration.

The simple answer is during competitions. I am sure that everyone shall agree with this because only competitions are those ocassions that test our abilities in comparison to the rest. Here I am not including anything regarding spirituality and meditation as I am talking only about how to develop concentration which is a major problem among students.Probably some might feel that they have the highest concentration while playing some games or watching a movie. While playing games, I do agree because it's once again a competition against the computer but I disagree with watching a movie because I can challenge that none of us can remember all the scenes and dialogues of a movie exactly after just the first watch. If the movie is a really interesting one the phase during which our mind is distracted is very limited and we feel as if we had concentrated the entire three hours.

Only during competitions does the mind is fully aware that if it doesn't focus all its attention towards the work at hand, it shall lose the competition and suffer the consequences. The competition forces the mind to concentrate during the complete stretch of time because only who concentrates the most and the best gets the right moves and right answers and eventually shall win the competition. A human mind doesn't want to lose a challenge thrown open to all equally. Hence competition gives an adequate and equal chance to all those who participate. You can share your opinions on

Feels nice to be remembered

It was around a couple of days back when I had been to the gym by 9pm or so that I saw a lady who reminded me of someone whom I had met before. By the time I gave few seconds to my brain to search its memory bank I recollected that the lady in the gym was none other than my beloved teacher who taught me during my kindergarten schooling. Immediately I rushed towards her and asked if my guess was really right. I was almost 100% sure that she would feel happy that I still remembered her but definitely she wouldn't be able to recollect my name because it had been a gap of more than 2 decades since I passed out of my kindergarten.

I went near her and uttered her name just for confirmation and to my surprise the reply wasn't a 'yes' or a 'yeah'. The reply was 'Mohan!!!!!' pointing at me. I was just astounded. How on earth could this teacher of mine remember my name so clearly after 2 decades????? I was just amazed by her memory. I just thanked her for remembering my name. Then throughout my workout I was only smiling that my teacher could remember my name even after 20 long years. I was just patting my back that I was so famous in school that no teacher could ever forget my name. It's very natural for students to forget the name of 50 and odd teachers' names that they witness during their lifetime of education. The teachers interact with hundreds of new students every year. When a student cannot remember just 50 teachers' names how can one expect a teacher to remember all the students' names. Might be no teacher remembers all his/her students' names but if he/she remembers your name even after 20 years then you might just be one of those lucky pets of his/her.

This small incident taught me so much about remembering people. Even after 3 days of the incident I am still happy that my nursery teacher remembered my name. Just imagine how much of happiness you can create for a person by just remembering him/her. You need not help or serve or give anything to the person to make him/her feel happy. Just remember their name until eternity and that itself shall serve as the best gift you could possibly ever present because it feels really nice to be remembered. A day to start with

As I start off my blogging in the morning itself today I feel that today is a bit different than other days. I am feeling sad on one side that I missed my gym today but on the other side I am atleast content that I have used the same time to write my blog. Seeing the positive side of anything is very important else you might just end up in the pit of guilt from which it is hard to come out. But as I just glance through the imagination as to what all I would be doing today it all seems covered up with lot of stuff. Very important for me would be to make sure that my priorities are addressed in the right order throughout the next sixteen hours. That's why I named this blog as 'a day to start with'.

Amidst so many work that is clogging our mind, we seldom get time to visualise something that will happen in future. Most of the times either we are busy contemplating what happened in the past and why it happened or our brain is completely busy in completing the present task at hand. Friends! just give ten minutes early morning even before you think that your day has started to just visualise as to how you want this day of yours to be. Just try to imagine yourself smiling all the day, making people feel good, completing lot of tasks without any tension and be lively and energetic all through the day. You can set the set of values that you will be following today no matter what happens. You might just decide to be helpful to anyone you find who is in need of help. You can easily plan the duration of time that will be required to complete any major work. More than that when the mind is free in the early morning and trying to search for a clear plan, all those tasks that seek your highest attention come on your mind immediately. Make sure that you're just putting all those thoughts into a neat To-Do list so that your mind doesn't have to worry as to what to do next when it is engulped in confusion. You can even list out the people with whom you would want to connect either through internet or phone or a personal meeting. Even that person will feel happy that you planned to sync up with him/her. Let's spread happiness folks!!!!!

The biggest advantage of this ten minutes of thought-process early morning before you start your day is that your day will get organised to the best perfection level. I can challenge you that most of the times we can't remember what have we done on most of the days. All of them seem similar rather same and there would be no special moments to remember a day barring a very few exceptions of occasions of celebrations. Why not strive to make everyday a memorable one only if you can plan in those early ten minutes of the day as to what you
would be doing today to make s
ure that this day remains in your memories forever!
