The environmental influence

I would want to reiterate the same example that my mentor says which is very simple and gives the exact gist of the makeover of our lives. Why does an apple in a refrigerator be fresh? The reason is very simple; it's because of the environment that's provided by the refrigerator to the apple to keep it fresh. This is a very simple example about the environmental influence. Similarly, in our lives also there are more chances for us to get in tune with the kind of environment we are surrounded with.

Your character is determined by the 5 people that you spend your time with. This was a statement that I heard almost 3 years back and ever since then, I have made sure that I have spent my time with the 5 chosen people who I believe are as ambitious as me. Once again, even this anecdote speaks about environmental influence. In one of our recent discussions with our team, our technical expert unexpectedly started talking about how the marketing needs to be done for one of our upcoming projects. The same person who would be more concerned on the technical part of the work was here speaking about marketing and that too about the convincing of the customer on the pricing. All the marketing people in the meeting were dumbfounded and were gaping at our tech-expert. When I went back to dig into the reason as to how this unexpected lesson was thrown across, I understood that it was because of the environmental influence.

Many a times, our technical team is involved during the discussions of marketing aspects and as a result, even without any practical training, some of the intricate topics of marketing have got subconsciously engraved in the minds of our tech team as well. Just by the environmental influence if a techie can grow to an extent of advising the marketing personnel, I think we must salute the environmental influence cast by great men and women. Just by being around with such people can make us leaders. That's how powerfully this external environmental influence can work wonders in us internally.

You can cast your influence through your comments.

Lessons from life form life

Life is filled with series of episodes where every episode has one or the other lesson to teach us. It's upto us whether we take those lessons or not but certain incidents are formed so perfectly that we derive philosophies out of them for our future. We frame rules based on these experiences and start applying the same rule for future experiences of our life. This is what I mean when I say 'lessons from life form life'. When two different people undergo the same experience their derivation of a philosophy out of the same kind of experience can be totally different. This will differ based on the intellect of the two people, their attitude, previous encounters with them, the family and surroundings around them during their upbringing and lot of other factors. Hence it is quite possible that these two people frame different kinds of philosophies out of the same experience and follow it in future. However a question arises as to which of these philosophies is right.

No philosophy is right, no philosophy is wrong. Everyone has the absolute right to define his/her own definitions for different feelings, emotions and similary experiences and that is the right which is often exercised to the fullest. Some might agree with the philosophies that you have formed while some might not. Similarly you might agree with someone's philosophies but not with those of the others. Though we know that the philosophies and lessons formed out of life by different people are different still their are some common philosphies that have been concluded by masses and have a global acceptance. These are the kind of lessons and philosophies that enter great books, your text books and the constitutions. Initially in our childhood we set one particular philosphy, the moment there is a situation where this doesn't work we frame a new modified version of the philosphy. With one more new experience where even this fails again we come up with the second version of it. This process continues in everyone's life as encounters with different people and different situations keep increasing. Let me tell you friends that this is a never ending process.

I would like to convey an important philosophy that I came up with which is to keep learning from everyone's philosophies. Learn all but apply the one that suits a situation. There is no point in debating or arguing as to whose philosophy is good or whose is bad. It might just end up in wasted efforts, energy and time. Listen to perceptions of different people and you will be easily able to find out the expertise level that the other person has in comparison with that of yours based on the latest modified version of his/her philosophy.
Proabably I have conveyed the philosophy or lesson that I have learned from my life with the experiences that I have had. Do feel free to share yours on is.mohanbn@gmail.com

Lesson a day

Its so obvious that most of the times we just sail through the series of our daily activities. Sometimes I just wonder how the subconscious mind of ours is so well programmed that we do the same routine set of activities everyday without getting bored even an inch about it. Amidst our busy schedule and the number of commitments that we need to cater to, are we able to devote sufficient time to introspect is my doubt. With most of us when we turn back and see life we fail to see what we did in days, we always see what happened in a year.

Introspection provides such a clear picture of our daily work so well that we can learn a lot from it. We can improve upon the right things and at the same time learn to avoid the mistakes that we made. Most important of all our daily acitivity is a clear reflection of our values, priorities and goals in life. This will provide the necessary feedback to correct ourselves to be better tomorrow than what we are today. In my daily habit of blogging, I keep searching for hints in my entire day so that I can share a valuable lesson with my beloved readers. I can for sure find a new lesson everyday because I have committed myself to learn something new on a daily basis and to share it with my friends. Today when I was looking through the flashback of my thoughts I was unable to find a very major lesson but still pondered over what's the learning for today that I can share with my pals and the lesson that we should learn a lesson from everyday struck my mind and that is what I have shared here today.

Search for an opportunity to learn something extra everyday. Be it a new word, be it a new information, be it a new wise lesson but make sure that you are atleast one step better today than what you were yesterday. Growth is the other name for life. The nature takes care of our physical growth, time takes care of our age growth, let us take care of our mental, emotional and spiritual growth. Famous are made fun of

A stone is thrown at a mango which is high upon the tree top not at the pumpkin sitting on the ground. Even people want to conquer climbing big mountains not the valleys down. Its been in the human psychology to either conquer bigger achievements or blame them if they can't. In the first case I would salute those people who would dedicate themselves to achieve every great thing that they possibly can but today I would like to throw some light on the second type of people. There is also a special reason behind this blog. Today most of them are afraid to become popular, famous, big, great, the best because of the surroundings that they are surrounded with.

I would like to start with few examples. Have you seen the photo of my birthdaymate Albert Einstein? Many of them say that he looks like a psycho in the pic because of his random hairstyle. If someone is found very geeky he is teased as Einstein than complemented with that tag. I still remember one of the short stories that I had read in my college wherein there was a person who had got a one billion dollar note and everywhere he used to go he used to show that note for payment. Since in those days people din't have that much money they used to think that he was the only person in the town who had only one billion dollar notes with him. Eventually this person became so famous that artists started making his caricature in newspapers. This is when I remembered the caricatures of movie stars, politicians, sports people in newspapers. Every common man might not know the common man the next door but will definitely know the famous ones and these are the ones that even he wishes to be one but because of various reasons he doesn't become famous. As the story of fox which thinks the grapes are sour after trying for it, even the common man cannot accept that he was unable to reach the limelight and that is the point when his ego stops him from accepting his faults and in order to lower the prestige of those who are famous he starts making fun of them. This is the reason that people read gossips about famous people and feel entertained that even they are of the same kind. This is what yellow journalism is thriving on.

Due to all these reasons, most of the upcoming youth are really having an aversion towards famous people because the moment they keep one as an idol a gossip breaks out and they lose the respect. With recurring cases of such types they tend to feel that being famous you are targeted for every small thing that you do which keeps them away from even thinking of doing something big and growing big. The moment anyone takes up an initiative to create something great there are hundred fingers to point out and laugh at that person. This is the reason that people have lost faith and hope on doing great things itself rather than even thinking about getting famous. Remember one strong lesson which will be the solution for this entire blog and that is "Kya kahenge log, sabse bada rog" which means "If you're thinking about what people will talk about you then that is the biggest disease". Just don't care about what others have to say, decide what you want to do and give your best efforts efforts to achieve it.

Thanks Anthony Robbins for the lesson, Thanks God for the slap

A small introduction of Anthony Robbins from wikipedia. Anthony "Tony" Robbins(born February 29,1960) is an American self-help author and motivational speaker. He became well known through his informercials and self-help books, Unlimited Power: The New Science of Personal Achievement and Awaken The Giant Within. Robbins writeS about subjects such as health and energy, overcoming fears, persuasive communication and enhancing relationships. Robbins began his career learning from many different motivational speakers and promoted seminars for his personal mentor, Jim Rohn. He is deeply influenced by neuro-linguistic programming and a variety of philosophies.

In one of the books of Anthony Robbins where he explains about how he became a motivational speaker he says that when he had joined an organization for speakers everyone who had enrolled there used to give two speeches a week but Tony Robbins used to give two speeches a day because he had a very clear goal of becoming a SPEAKER. So he used to do it the maximum number of times possible and he teaches that if you are wanting to be a professional in something you need to do it everyday and not just on a weekend. Even Robin Sharma endorses the same idea in his book 'The Greatness Guide'. Thanks to both these masters. They had passed on a lesson which they had learnt, to me theoretically. Today I learnt the same lesson practically. Today I was given an opportunity to address a gathering of 40 people for an inspirational talk. After speaking for about 20-30 minutes I faced one of the tightest slaps I have ever got on my speaking ability. I just felt that I had misearbly failed to keep up to the standard of an inspirational speaker that I aimed to be. The sole reason for this was I was practising the profession of a speaker for few minutes once a fortnight or sometimes once a month. I had concluded on my own that based on my job timings this is the best that I could give for my speaking career. Folks! you don't achieve what you want by just giving your best, you achieve it by giving what is required to achieve it. This was one more solid slap on my ignorance of the lessons of the experienced. Though one of my friends said "Awesome" after I spoke I clearly could read the audience feedback. At that time I felt that you should never ask your friends for feedback. They are too good to say the truth straight on your face because they care for you and can't see you feeling hurt. When the live feedback is from the audience in front of you, you need not ask anyone else.

Friends, please don't make the mistake that I have made. You don't become a painter by painting on your weekend or a singer by just singing a song on a sunday. If you are eyeing any of the professional career based on your interest better implement that interest everyday into action. If I can extend it further implement it every moment. A businessman who is involved in his business every second of the day only makes profits not anyone who opens the store once a week. Its very simple - if you're a student you need to study everyday, if you're a chef you need to cook everyday, if you're person in job you need to work everyday to get paid excepting holidays. I still am into brainstorming on how I'll implement my speaking practice everyday. Hope you start your preparation soon enough to avoid any slaps later.

The biggest wrong lesson that you learnt in your 1ST standard

I dont think there exists anyone on this earth who has done his first standard and doesn't know about the famous story of animalkind wherein a race was set between a fast and furious rabbit and a slow and steady tortoise. Neither me nor you know where the race was set? who set up the race between these 2 animals? for how long the race happened? but still each one of us have been taught either by our teachers or elders the moral of this race story as "SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE" at one point or the other in our lives.

As soon as the race began, the rabbit sped miles ahead of the tortoise who was struggling hard to run carrying his heavy shell on his back. As rabbit saw that the tortoise was way behind him, he thought of taking a power nap before reaching the finishing line. The tortoise kept putting its efforts, surpassed the sleeping rabbit and reached the finishing red ribbon and won the race.

Folks! Only if the rabbit had not slept in between the race there would not have been even 0.000000000001% probability of tortoise winning the race by running faster than the rabbit. Was the rabbit foolish enough to sleep during a race? I am not sure about the answer but if the rabbit was really serious about winning the race it would not even have paused to take a deep breath. Logically a tortoise can never run as fast as a rabbit or even think of beating it in a running race. We all know this.

The biggest mistake made here was putting the strength of one animal against the weakness of the another animal in a challenge. Had the case been a race between 2 rabbits or between 2 turtles the moral would never have been 'slow and steady wins the race'. Inturn it would have been 'fast and furious wins the race'. Likewise friends beware! Most of us make the mistake of comparing our weaknesses with someone else's strengths and feel inferior or the other way ie, we start comparing our strengths with someone else's  weaknesses  and feel superior.

As my birthday-mate(Albert Einstein) rightly said "If you expected a fish to climb a tree, it would think of itself as a failure all its life", lets not make the same mistake and learn the wrong lesson which we did in our first standard. Rather lets get back on track to weaken our weaknesses and strengthen our strengths.
