Appa amma peche kekaame...

I  have been a crazy movie buff from a long time. In fact, I have learnt some of the best lessons from movies. Movies have been an inspiration and a reason for rejuvenation for me on many occasions. Once again, I am here to share one of the most profound lessons of life that got reinforced while watching a movie recently. In this movie, the hero is a cop who gets to meet some big shots in business. During the conversation, he mentions some of the lessons taught by his parents which he follows honestly. In return, they question him about his obedience towards his parents. At that point, he replies, "appa amma peche kekaame, vere yaar pecha kekunu?"

 

The title of this blog post is in Tamil language, one of the regional languages in India which has lived for centuries together. The last statement which is the reply of the cop is also in Tamil. Translated version goes like this - "Without listening to parents' advice who else's advice should we listen to?" With the age gap between parents and children yielding a vast gap in the technology and the kind of environment the kids are surrounded with today, it has become highly difficult for parents to hold on to their kids along their school of thought. Parents' beliefs seem far alien to the current generation of youth. As a result of this widening gap between the closest ones and absence of right guidance, today's youth is getting entangled into lot of problems, both physical as well as mental. When one doesn't listen to his/her parents' advice then s/he will be bound to listen to some random stranger's advice who appears in the form of a friend or a lover. What guidance can a fellow being give who himself/herself is left unguided in the darkness of ignorance!

 

Our parents have been the reason for our existence on this planet. They are the reason for us to have our basic necessities fulfilled to the best extent possible. Man undermines the value of people who always stay with him and provide him daily service. Being pampered by our parents, we forget that we are indebted to the kind and amount of care and love that they shower on us and take them for granted. As a result, we get misled in life because of others' words. It's time to remind ourselves that our parents' are the ones who shall always think about our profits more than their losses and turn our attention back towards our parents and their thoughtful words.

Sallu bhai tujhe salaam

It used to be those times during childhood when I used to watch a lot of movies only in my regional language. Bollywood was a word which was unknown to me. As I grew up, I started getting glimpses of the bollywood stars. One of them was Salman Khan who was very much known for his fantastic physique. Being the most glamourous male star of the film industry, all his movies had a shirtless scene of his with many girls running around him in majority of them. I thought him as just a playboy in movies who didn't know any acting and hence hated him because I felt he was casting a negative influence.

 

I was too amature at that time to decide about all these. For many years I was a anti-Salman fan and would prefer to watch Shah Rukh Khan or Aamir Khan movies because I felt they had more talent stuff than Salman to showcase in their movies. It was only in the recent past of about one and half year back when I enrolled into a gym could I appreciate the niche that Salman Khan had carved for himself in the movie industry. All that I could see on the foreground was Salman's shirtless acts which never impressed me. But when I got into bodybuilding and started understanding the discipline and dedication that it requires to have a body like Salman Khan, I had huge amount of respect soar for him. I felt really guilty of not being able to spot the hardwork behind his shirtless acts. That is when I said, "Sallu bhai tujhe salaam".

 

Many a times in our lives we always jump into conclusions just by seeing what's right in front of our eyes. Not all of us go one step forward to understand the background work that resulted in the scenario that we are witnessing. In this ample gap of ignorance or negligence we end up failing in understanding people and situations. Your work Your royalty

In the investor words royalty is defined as "A payment made for the use of property, especially a patent, copyrighted work, franchise, or natural resource. The amount is usually a percentage of revenues obtained through its use." Probably I wouldn't prefer to complicate the meaning or the definition by way of elaborated complex description as we don't need it. If you have understood the above definition which I am sure that you have then to make your understanding simpler just read the title of the blog once again.

Whatever you work on earlier during your lifetime is what that will serve you when you're unable to work later. Today, many people are in the rapid mad rush of building materialistic assets one after the other with an unending list in their hands. In due course they are forgetting to build the contribution that their work can generate. I am not against the process of building materialistic assets as I do agree that it's very important in life but let me reassure you that its not the only solution for the days of drought. If an author has authored a book, he keeps getting royalty income when every new copy of his book is sold. Similarly when a musician has composed a music album, he keeps getting royalty income for every record that's sold. These types of royalty keep continuing and increasing as long as the book or the music can satisfy the customers. So an author who invests more on enriching his writing ability to cater to mass audience can write more books of more vareity and have more sources of royalty income. Similarly a musician who can nourish the musical talent in him in diversified directions to meet the tastes of diversified music lovers can enlarge his modes of royalty income for all the musical work that he does. In either of the cases, if the author or the musician starts focusing only on increasing his bank balance or the luxury chart of his house exploiting the temporary popularity in ignorance of the growth and development of his talent then he might soon end up in losing the people's interest because people demand change and novelty.

The example of the author or the musician was just to illustrate the importance of the quality of work that one has to deliver over the mere fulfillment of basic and baseless necessities of life. Your work is what will reap you fruits when you're no more in a position to deliver the same what you could do some years back. Hence focus on what you can do more, what you can do better and how much more your work can contribute.
