Double shades

Everyone is good, everyone is bad, only the percentage varies. This is what my mathematics professor had taught us in my first year of engineering. I remember this statement to its word-level perfection even today because of the greatest truth of life that it carries in it. A lot of us don't know the different between good and bad while we still fight over them and this statement just concludes it all.

Each one of us present on this earth love to do good things that satisfy us. None of us would love to do things that harm us. Unfortunately there are those unfortunate souls who harm themselves thinking that they are doing it for their own good by getting into the bad habits which I don't want to mention here as you people know it well, courtesy the spoilt environment around us. However devoid of such cases there exist double shades in each one of us based on the scenarios we are planted in. No one can claim that s/he is completely clean with their work and actions all the time. I am not sure if you have heard about the experiment of that mother orangutan which puts down its own child and stands on it when the water level in the drum which it is present in rises above its manageable level of surviving. It's difficult to say whether the orangutan was good for saving itself or bad for killing its own child. It's hard to see ourselves in its position.

Every hero or a villian appears in good shade to people who support him while in a darker shade to those who oppose him. Even the earth has day and night. Even the moon has a full-moon day and a new-moon day, even the sky is clear and dark, likewise double shades are just the law of nature. Feel free to share your views on

Twists and turns

All of us like surprises. The human mind finds routine stuff boring and the moment there is anything new which is a change from the existing trend, it catches attention of our senses. Since the human mind can logically anticipate and predict the next step, if the same happens then there is no much surprise to the brain. That is when it needs some twists and turns.

For those people who love mathematics, I am sure you would be much more happy to solve aptitude questions that involve different tricks to solve the problems. You would enjoy solving those competitive exam questions rather than writing answers for derivations which might carry more marks. Brain needs exercise and it needs something to think upon which is unpredictable. Based on this psychology of people, today's movies are coming with different stories and screenplays. If the story is straight forward then a reverse screenplay using flashbacks is employed to create the necessary suspense. It's much more enjoyable to watch movies that have twists and turns woven into the storyline itself. The Shawshank Redemption was once such movie that nearly shook the chair that I was sitting on towards the climax. The slow paced story for nearly first 90% almost made me stop watching it but the thundering revealing secret of last 10% made it one of my all-time favourites.

In life definitely we wouldn't expect any twists in our education or career or family life though we expect the same in movies. However even movies were made by people seeing the world around. So you have to be strong enough to face any kind of twists and turns that the uncertain life might throw at you at any point of life. Magic of music

It was decades ago when we had movies which were just plain with no audio and only video. After audio got attached to the movies, it took the movie watching experience to a whole new level. Especially music is the key for holding emotions of the audience while watching any movie. Irrelevant music can completely strip off the movie of its essence. Perfect music can even hold the breath of the audience.

I have been a great movie-buff and a big fan of movies as well. I am always awed by these music directors who create the background music. Composing tunes for a song is a completely different subject. Background music adds value and vigour to every scene. The moment we sense the starting of the background score, our mind can anticipate the kind of situation to expect next. The background scores of some movies are so powerful that they remain in our memories even after we are out of the theatres. That surge in the piano tone and a light voice added to it can make our pulses go up and down at the highest frequency possible. Every minute sound of a knocking of a door also can be made diligently visible in the screenspace given. I still cherish the movie 'Pushpaka Vimana' which is a speechless movie of Dr.Kamal Hassan but with an amazing background score that narrates the entire story.

Everyone of us are influenced by music of one type or the other. I just wish that someday I shall be able to compose some music as well. All of us love those moments when we have our earphones on listening to radio or our favourite songs and we keep singing along forgetting that the world of trouble exists around us. Salute to the patriot

Sri Udham Singh Kamboj is one of the unheard stories of our Indian freedom struggle. I am damn sure that if you search about him in wikipedia, you shall get the entire detailed information. Still I would like to share a small gist about his life and the lesson that I learnt.

Jallianwallah Bagh massacre which occured in 1919, was one of the most brutal attacks on innocent people in the history of the world. The English military force surrounded the park and openly fired at more than 20,000 innocent Indians who had gathered to listen to the speeches of their leaders. Thousands of bodies were found in the well in the park the next morning where people had jumped in to save their lives. General Dyer was the commander who gaved the order and Michael O'Dwyer was his senior official who supported him saying that the decision was apt. Udham Singh Kamboj who was an associate of Bhagat Singh, learnt about this and held Michael O'Dwyer responsible for this and took up the decision to take revenge against him. He wanted to travel to London and assasinate him to teach the British a lesson. Being a rebel in India, it was hard for him to reach England. In spite of getting imprisoned for 5 years, he kept his hopes alive, took up different names and finally reached London in 1934 after 15 years.

Even after that, he waited for 6 years to find the most suitable occasion to kill the British officer and finally in 1940, he openly fired at Michael  O'Dwyer in a meeting organised by British officials and fulfilled his purpose of life after which he was hanged to death. You can google out further to know the real story in detail but I just want to salute Sri Udham Singh Kamboj for the kind of perseverence that he had towards his revenge. In spite of knowing that his purpose would lead him to death, he held his passion high for 21 years to fulfill his purpose of life. Why can't we people be passionate of our dreams on achieving which we shall only be living a far better life? Why do we lose our hope, belief and motivation within few months or years? Why can't we carry the fire of fulfilling our purpose of life for decades? These are the questions that spring up in my mind on reading Sri Udham Singh Kamboj's story. Library at home

No doubt that I am fascinated by books. Many people are as well. I am not much used to reading books online or e-books. I love to read paperback books. It's a great feeling to hold a book in your hand and listen to the author in our minds. I am on my way to build a good library of good collection of books in my home.

All of us who study through different classes of our childhood read many types of books from text books to encyclopedias to story books to novels to competitive books. How many of these books do we actually preserve in our library? Many a times we just sell the old text books for the sake of new ones. How many times do we actually buy books which are not related to our syllabus? It was quite an unknown phenomenon to me upto my 9th std. I had no idea of books which were unrelated to our education stream. It was the book 'You Can Win' which I caught hold of in my 10th std that started my reign of buying books for reading purpose and developing exclusively. From then onwards I have been keen on buying books that can impart extra education unavailable in our syllabus. The moment I joined my job, I got into the addiction of building a library of my own.

Often people tease that you may not be able to read all the books that you buy and hence it's a waste to have a library at home. I am sure lot of us have many unread books in our homes. It just doesn't matter as long as there are instant solutions to your problems in the form of books in your home and available right at your sight. If you also endorse this idea, do let me know on is.mohanbn@gmail.com

Happy to see more volunteers

With growing impact of inspirational and motivating talks by Inspiration Unlimited on young people of India, I am happy to see more number of students volunteering to take part in different social initiatives taken up by IU. Hence I take this opportunity to congratulate and thank each of these volunteers who are coming forward to contribute their bit to our society.

Starting with 36meals.com, an NGO which aims at eliminating hunger from the world, Hitesh.G from Vijaya college along with his group of volunteers from the same college has been able to reach out to more than 2000 people with the message of not wasting food. IUNPB - IUNewspaperbag project has just multiplied in its impact of reaching more than 1 lakh newspaperbags being made throughout the country. VVN college was the recent wholesale contributor to take up this project and execute it successfully. IUY2C - IUYouth-to-Children campaign of promoting the teaching to under-privileged by the youth of colleges has taken a great shape in reaching thousands of students being educated on different lines of basic education. IU Cares has just been expanding its wings in different horizons through book donation and other campaigns.

All such developments have been possible only because of more number of volunteers jumping into the working and execution of all these projects. We need more number of young people to take part in such projects and project the impact even much higher. It shall happen only by sharing about such ideas with our friends. Do share about your ideas on  is.mohanbn@gmail.com

Let me give up

As I have taken up the challenge of completing 365 blogs by the end of March 3rd,2013, it has been rigorous blogging from almost last 4-5 days. Everyday I need to invest a solid good amount of hours to rack my brain for different valuable topics and brainstorm through different ideas on blogging about them because I can't go under-quality on my blogs.

While I am doing so, the mounting pressure of writing 11 blogs a day just keeps growing in my head. If I miss blogging in the morning, I have to sit for hours continuously in front of my laptop typing out until I finish my target for the day. Sitting in front of the laptop is what I hated and it was one of the prominent reasons for me to leave Oracle which was a software company. Now that my goal is very near and clear on my mind, I need to be steadfast in my approach and can't miss anything on the path to reach it. At such times, I also feel like giving up due to frustration or other reasons. I have even heard of people who take up Ph.D's feel the feeling of giving up while they are half-way through their journey of studies. This feeling doesn't make one a failure. It's bound to occur when we are desperate to reach the goal but are just astonished by the surmountable work in front of us.

At such times, you just have to calm yourself down and tell yourself that you shall achieve the target soon and then you are free from any kind of pressure. You just have to gather back all the reasons for your working towards the goal, take a deep breath and continue once again on your endeavour. If you also feel the same, then share on is.mohanbn@gmail.com
